LEON VENTER

Leon Venter is the Chief Executive Officer of Low Voltage Switchboards (PTY) Ltd. based in South Africa, a company he founded in 1998 and guided to its position as a leader in the South African switchgear market.

He began his career as an electrician for Barlows Heavy Engineering (PTY) Ltd., where he specialized in fault-finding and repair of control panels. He also worked for AEG-Telefunken AG as a design engineer in the Motor Control Center and Power Distribution Board division where he became more involved in switchgear assemblies. After qualifying, he joined the services of GEC-Alstom Ltd, where he attained the position of project manager. This position entailed a more in-depth involvement with factory-built assemblies for the industrial and mining sectors of the market.

He obtained his National Technical Diploma in 1985 to qualify as an Electrical Technician Engineer and in 1990 he earned a Diploma as a Member of the Project Management Institute. In 1993 he was awarded a Certificate of Membership to the Institute of Railway Engineers (London), and in 1995 he was awarded an Associate Membership of the South African Institute of Electrical Technician Engineers.

Leon enjoys golf in his free time.
